I’m in Love, What’s that Song? I’m in Love with that Song – Alex Chilton (1950-2010)

Alex Chilton died yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 59. With his band Big Star, he virtually invented the power pop genre and influenced countless subsequent, often more-successful, bands. Chilton wrote some of the most beautiful songs there are about what it’s like to grow up in America and in love, whether you’re in love with the girl down the street or just with rock and roll. Here are some examples of his amazing legacy:

Ted Leo – The Ballad of El Goodo (Buy TL Music)

Wilco – Thirteen (Buy Wilco Music)

And here’s my favorite Big Star song:

Big Star – Give Me Another Chance (Buy Big Star Music)
