Cover Tuesday, Pt. 43

Hey everybody, I’m excited. I know it’s Tuesday, and I know it’s been a really long week already, but I’m still excited. I’m excited for the new film Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten, directed by Julian Temple (who has the great Sex Pistols doc The Filth and The Fury under his belt). From the trailer above, it looks like Temple used the same sort of bizarre and innovative approach to Stummer’s life as he did with the Sex Pistols with, among other things, animation (!). Bono jawing at a campfire notwithstanding — frankly I’d rather not hear him talk about anything except maybe how world poverty isn’t a good thing — the IMDB cast list looks really impressive, and not just from a “Gee, I really liked his music” perspective either.

So in honor of me being excited about the movie, I decided to post some pre-Clash Strummer covers, with his band The 101ers. Some great stuff here, including a nice cover of “Junco Partner.” If you’d like, you can grab Professor Longhair’s version over at Aquarium Drunkard.

The 101ers – Don’t Let It Go (Bo Diddley cover)

The 101ers – Junco Partner (Wee Willy Wayne cover)

The 101ers – Shake Your Hips (Slim Harpo cover) (Buy It)
