Flaming Frank’s House of Zappa Lips

So I don’t know if you all noticed, but Good Luck Chuck continues to be the most popular crappy movie in a while. No, I haven’t seen it. No, I don’t need to see it to know it sucks. No, I don’t just blindly hate all the stuff most people love (I swear!). But one good thing to come out of that godforsaken less-than-excuse for a piece of comedy (let alone cinema) was a new song by everybody’s favorite psychedelic astronauts The Flaming Lips.

The song “I Was Zapped By The Super Lucky Rainbow!” is a perfect example of the band’s perfected brand of exuberant bizarro-pop, all the way down to the exclamation point in the title. But what’s that you say? That song is pretty sweet, but that one part, it sounds familiar? I thought the same thing! That’s because it DOES sound familiar, especially to anyone who’s heard the Frank Zappa song “Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow,” the cautionary tale of a young Eskimo getting some (good) advice from his mother.

Listen close, enjoy, and don’t see Good Luck Chuck. Don’t be part of the problem, be part of the solution!

BONUS!: And as a bonus, you get part two of the “Don’t Eat…” which details Nanook’s encounter with a fur trapper and the scuffle that ensues in his attempt to protect his favorite baby seal, and The Lips’ contribution to the Spongebob Squarepants movie soundtrack. Eerily, if you listen close enough, you can hear a similarity between these two songs too! … Nah, I’m just messing with you. Don’t strain yourself.
