Cover Tuesday, Pt. 40

I’m pretty exhausted, so I’ll keep it short this Tuesday. I’ve got two versions of the 18th century folk song “Shady Grove” (the Wikipedia article here is pretty short, but informative). One of their more melancholy performances, it’s definitely one of my favorite Garcia/Grisman tunes. And the version by newbies Blitzen Trapper isn’t bad either (complete with some blistering banjo picking). I’m even throwing in another great cover Garcia and Grisman did on the same album, of a Mississippi John Hurt song called “Louis Collins” (retitled “Angels Laid Him Away”), another somber folk tune beautifully done.

PS: You’ll check out some covers that Scholar posted over at Souled On if you know what’s good for you. Seriously good stuff.
