Hey gang, welcome to yet another installment of our ongoing series “Cover Tuesday,” where I scour my music collection to give you songs written by one artist and performed by another. This week’s edition, we have some cover songs by the great Al Green, from his early years with producer Willie Mitchell (on the right in the picture above). I’m trying to think of a way to describe just how good the source albums for these tracks are, but of course I come up shorthanded. I’m Still In Love With You (which includes “For the Good Times”) is my favorite of the set, but the others (Gets Next to You, Let’s Stay Together and Call Me) contain some of the best music ever made by human beings ever. And this is no hyperbole. No exaggeration. Even if you don’t consider yourself a huge fan of music, or soul music or whatever, do yourself a favor and get these albums. You can thank me later.
