Plucking Your Heartstrings

Saw the Guarneri Quartet perform at the Metropolitan Museum of Art tonight, and it renewed my belief that the sound of someone plucking violin strings is one of the greatest musical sounds people can make. One of the pieces the Quartet performed was Ravel’s fantastic “String Quartet in F Major,” which movie buffs will recognize as the song from the opening credits of The Royal Tenenbaums (Buy the soundtrack). So here’s the Second Movement from “String Quartet…” and a couple other string-plucking tunes from Aphex Twin’s creepy-covered The Richard D. James Album (Buy It).
